Unagi Eel & Tempura

Unagi eels have been a popular source of energy in Japan for centuries, and is typically grilled and dipped in sweetened soy sauce, and served on a bed of steamed rice. Tempura is another traditional dish in our culture, offering seasonal vegetables and seafoods deep-fried in a delicate batter. Japanese restaurant Isshin serves unagi, tempura, and other Japanese delicacies along with sake from various regions in Japan.

Kushikatsu (Deep-fried Skewers): Osaka’s Local Specialty

Bite-sized beef, vegetables, and seafood are skewered, breaded, and deep fried to become “kushikatsu”, the specialty dish so loved by the local people of Osaka. It is said to have appeared in the “Shinsekai” district surrounding the Tsutenkaku Tower around a century ago, where many shops still serve fresh fried skewers today. Mikan offers a fine-dining variation of this originally simple dish: carefully selected fresh seafood, meat, and vegetables prepared with creativity, along with exquisite wines.
