A Stroll in Positive Energy

Hotel New Otani Tokyo’s Japanese Garden is regarded by many as a ‘power spot’, places believed to emit a special energy or spiritual power to its visitors. This is due to the garden being located along a Ryu-myaku, a pathway of earth’s ‘Qi’ which can be described as energy, aura, or spiritual power.

The term Ryu-myaku, which means “dragon veins” (ryu is ‘dragon’ and myaku is ‘vein’), is derived from the belief that the earth possesses energy paths akin to veins in a human, flowing through mountain ridges resembling shapes of dragons. History tells that Tenkai, the high priest of Tendai (Mahayana Buddhist School) during the Azuchi Momoyama period (approx. 1568 - 1600) and early Edo period (1603 - 1868) with strong ties to Shogun Ieyasu Tokugawa, had crafted lands to draw in the earth’s Qi from Mount Fuji and the Chichibu mountains to have it accumulate in Edo (present-day Tokyo) with its ultimate destination being the Edo castle (now the Imperial Palace). Hotel New Otani Tokyo’s Japanese Garden sits directly on the powerful spiritual energy pathway that connects the Imperial Palace and Mount Fuji, the highest mountain in Japan and one of the country’s strongest power spots.

Japanese Garden

It is said that places can feel and even register the Qi of visitors. Since the hotel’s establishment in 1964, over 50,000 couples have exchanged vows of marriage in the Japanese Garden and it continues to be a place to celebrate special occasions such as wedding anniversaries, ceremonies for children, and more. The Japanese Garden is endowed with plenty of positive Qi from past visitors and is presumed to reciprocate that energy to its future visitors in a positive cycle.

Upon the construction of the Garden Tower in 1974, a waterfall of over six meters in height was built utilizing the altitude difference of five stories that existed between the Akasaka and Yotsuya sides of the hotel. Showers of negative ions from the cascading waters of the magnificent waterfall and the beautiful nature of the Japanese Garden may help cleanse your spirit, enhancing your wellbeing and mental clarity.

Experience the Japanese Garden at Hotel New Otani Tokyo to refresh your body, soul, and mind with positive energy.
